Siân Martin – Change Matters
As part of her research for ‘Change Matters’ Siân gathered plastic waste from beaches and the country-side.
The gathered plastic materials lead to study sketchbook drawings and trial samples.
Siân Martin responds to the landforms of coastlines, water edges, horizons using cane and willow to make linear forms onto which she attaches fabric fragments.
Siân personalises the plastic materials with stitch, sand paper, colour, paint marks and heat.
Plastic materials are introduced into these linear landforms to suggest how plastics lodge and become part of our landscape as alien materials. Feathers signify the birdlife effected by the presence of discarded plastic.
